Factors that affect Thermal Performance

A number of factors can effect thermal performance and increase the risk of thermal breakage. Some of the factors that can affect the performance of your glass include:

  • Partial shading caused by building overhangs
  • Interior shading caused by blinds, drapes, etc.
  • Condition of the glass edge
  • Type of framing
  • Framing that comes into contact with materials that may cool the glass edge more quickly than the center
  • Air flow from cooling or heating vents
  • Non-heat-treated glass

These risks can be estimated with NWI's computer-aided thermal stress analysis tests. Our experienced support staff can help you determine which factors might effect your project's glass, then provide possible solutions to meet your glass requirements. Either email our support staff or call us at 1-800-426-2771.
